Mississippi community college Pearl River Community College has received a grant worth up to $200,000 from the Mississippi Apprenticeship Program and the U.S. Department of Labor. The funds will be put towards the promotion and development of apprenticeships at local businesses. There will also be money set aside with the purpose of consulting with businesses about the best course of action when it comes to implementing these apprenticeships and making sure they are up to standard.

“This grant is critical for our ability to continue helping businesses to implement work-based learning initiatives,” Rebecca Brown, dean of Workforce and Community Development at PRCC, told the television station. The community college and the state's apprenticeship program have worked together since 2016 to promote apprenticeships and collaborated with various local businesses to figure out what they need in terms of training.”

The U.S Department of Labor has continued to provide federal funding for the expansion of apprenticeship programs across the country and has seen a spike in both creation and participation as a result. Programs like these will help to address the current skilled worker shortage as well as continue to build the economy by strengthening the talent pool.
