Bay Area City Council to Offer Apprenticeships To Curb Youth Crime

In a new push to prevent youth crime, the city of Antioch California wants to offer city apprenticeships as an alternative.

In a new push to prevent youth crime, the city of Antioch California wants to offer city apprenticeships as an alternative. The city understands that their current struggles with gangs and drugs will not simply evaporate but know that taking these steps can help to improve on the current system.

Councilwoman Monica Wilson was all for the new initiative pushing for any kind of training, services, or mentorship program to be supported in the program as well as access to transportation for all participants.

While some were less convinced of the effectiveness of the program as Councilwoman Tamisha Torres-Walker warned her piers that including experts within the field on creating such a program would be necessary to be successful. Walker continues on to say that she believes no program would be successful without the community fully buying in.
