The U.S. Department of Labor has recently awarded Lewis and Clark Community College a little over $1 million to help them continue to build and expand their YouthBuild Program which helps to train participants 16-24 for potential jobs in construction and other high demand industries. The pre-apprenticeship model will support young people in developing hard skills as well as allowing them to split their time between a classroom environment and a workplace environment.

“YouthBuild meets young people where they live, and wherever they are on their path to educational attainment and career success,” said Principal Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Suzi LeVine. “Even as these grants are awarded, the Employment and Training Administration is working on the next YouthBuild funding opportunity, always with an eye to equity and inclusion in terms of the communities involved, and the individual participants served.”

The grant received is part of a larger initiative from the Department of Labor that has allocated more than $89 million in funds to distribute to colleges in universities across 31 states and Puerto Rico. Lewis and Clark were only one of five schools to receive the funding.
